The Texas Rangers, by John Milius - December 11, 1991 draft I really enjoyed this for the most part. It's a thrilling, well put together with a solid set of central characters. It's a shame Savoy wouldn't go for Tommy Lee Jones as McNelly, that would have been awesome. I haven't seen the movie...

What script are you reading right now?

Just finished reading the John McTiernan/William Wisher draft of Eaters of the Dead aka The 13th Warrior. It was mostly pretty close to the film, but there were some extra bits and the unresolved plot threads were tied up nicely. The ending is interesting, more akin to Zulu's ending than the one...

Super Mario Bros., by Tom S. Parker and Jim Jennewein This was a very fun read. I'm not super (heh) familiar with the series aside from the basic imagery and character design, but this seemed to stay pretty close to most of that. It was also very funny at times, and slips some crap past the...

Conflicts of the Last Progenitors, by S. Craig Zahler This wasn't a bad read overall, and I was really into the first half where it set up the version of the future it takes place in, as well as the initial exploration of Option-1. However, for reasons I can't really articulate, once the...

The Architects of Fear, by Charlie Haas The premise was very interesting, but I felt the update from the Cold War to the 90s made the entire plan seem a bit much, given the lack of a potential nuclear war. Bowman came off like such a crazed fanatic that it seemed off for everybody to go along...

They Repair Us, by S. Craig Zahler This starts as an intriguing thriller, but ends up in fascinating science fiction territory by the end. A lot of really interesting ideas are on display here, leaving you a fair bit to chew on.

The Mummy, by Lloyd Fonvielle - Story by Lloyd Fonvielle and Kevin Jarre Not the worst thing ever, and it has some effective, brutal horror scenes, but the central love story is pretty bad and cringey. Also, there are a number of concepts that feel very tacked on, like Kharis eating corpses to...

Raw Knuckles, by S. Craig Zahler This was a great prohibition era crime story, with an excellently crafted ensemble cast and some truly messed up and creepy villains. It also managed to have a pretty interesting take on the debate surrounding prohibition, not just a simple good vs bad conflict...

The Mummy, Rewrite by Mick Garris - Third Draft This is basically a tweaked version of Romero's draft. The basic thrust of the story is the same, as are most of the basic plot points. Almost everything it did well is still present, while the stuff it didn't was changed for the better. The...

The Big Stone Grid, by S. Craig Zahler This was a great, suitably grim and violent crime thriller, with a central conceit that's pretty clever and interesting. My only real issue is that I would have liked more about the bad guys and why there were doing what they were doing. Other than that...

The Mummy, George Romero draft This is probably the strongest of the Mummy scripts, in terms of horror elements, with plenty of gruesome moments. The overall arc Imhotep is given here is quite good as well, and including Kharis as his "mummy muscle" is a great nod to the 40s Mummy films. It's...

Silo AKA Denizens of Filth, by S. Craig Zahler Very effective horror script, but I could have done with seeing and learning more about the different things living in the silo. It's just sort of left at "because radiation." That being said, what we do see, especially The Twins, is pretty freaky.

The Mummy, by Alan Ormsby - Rewrite by John Sayles Very solid update on the original movie's story. On a third read, some of the lesser humorous bits ("You don't want a man who's all wrapped up in himself") stuck out to me a bit more, though.

Pet Sematary, by Matt Greenberg This was... bad. Between weird changes like Victor Pascow, Church acting like the big bad, and a ******* cop out ending, this fails pretty hard.

Breaking the Empire State, by S. Craig Zahler Not the best script ever, and not Zahler's best, either, but this is a well done Die Hard style action script. The Empire State Building is well utilized as a setting, which helps, and the action scenes are suitably cool and expectedly brutal.

Movie The Lost Boys: The TV Series by Rob Thomas

Shame, the period piece idea sounded a lot better to me.

Pet Sematary, by David Kajganich Honestly, this was pretty solid. It takes some liberties with the source material, most notably aging up both of the kids and swapping a few things around towards the end, but it's mostly reverent to the story and themes. I wasn't overly happy about losing the...

The Punisher II, by Nick Santora, Revisions by Kurt Sutter A strong, grounded take on the character with some killer action. Minus some false notes like the love story, this a solid script.

Movie Doctor Sleep(The Shining sequel) by Akiva Goldsman

I'm guessing the 2015 one is a Goldsman draft.
