Movie Escape from New York (Remake)

A movie they've been threatening to remake for over a decade now. I know that there are two or three scripts that have been circulating on the internet for awhile - the first by Ken Nolan from 2007. Does anybody have any copies to share?

Interesting. Speaking as a fan of Carpenter's original, i absolutely loved Nolan's 2007 script for remake, it's also one of my favorite unproduced scripts of all time. I didn't mind 2010 draft, but personally, i didn't like how story and characters were changed, but i wouldn't say that it was poorly written or bad script. Would love to read that Cross draft if it really was, as you say, balls out. Nolan's 2007 draft is very brutal, bloody and action packed script so i can't help but to wonder how much bigger that draft is.

That's back when CAA was selling Allan Loeb on virtually every rewrite job in Hollywood, not to mention every spec he could think up and spit out. I believe he landed nearly 15 script deals (spec/rewrites) from 2009-2010. He made so much money during those two years he bought an apartment on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for $3.9 million. His net worth today (according to Celebrity Net Worth) is $20 million. Some people have it that good. But getting back to his Escape From New York rewrite, it was just one of many "useless" scripts he wrote during that time period.

Well, honestly, i think this one has couple of interesting ideas, but from what i heard about this new version of the remake so far, it doesn't sounds like it's gonna be pleasant surprise if it gets made (and i hope it won't), and i still think that Ken Nolan's script was the one they should have used to remake the film years ago. I hope that we will get to check out the script for this real soon, and find out for ourselves is there a chance for this to work, but like Captain said, it's not happening anytime soon.

It doesn't sound too bad... but I fail to see the point of dropping the prison concept. Then again, I glanced at the other two drafts, and they went way too far out of the way to justify the prison...

Well, Nolan's draft had some great action pieces, but in story terms it was lazy rehash of the original(basically the same story with the same structure and plot points, and characters, but bigger and more expensive), plus Nolan changed Snake's character in a worse way, so personally I don't think it would make a great movie. There's no need in remake, unless they create a completely different movie, like Scarface 1982 to 1932.

Thanks for sharing CMacLeod1997! I've always been a fan of these Kurt Russel John Carpenter movies, so it's nice to see these scripts.
I know that a Snake Plissken anime was set to be made but fell through...

They also hoped to make a video game and a TV series, even talk of a third film Escape From Earth. All fell through unfortunately. Anyone know if any of those scripts are out there though?

There was also a short-lived (maybe six issues) comic book series a few years ago.

How 'bout Escape from AMERICA. Plissken just trying to save his neck by going coast to coast. A macguffin much talked about but never revealed. How hard can it be?
