Pooling money to buy scripts.

I spent more time on my previous post, but distilled it to brass tacks so as not to seem pretentious. But you mentioned food or shelter, so I may as well say now what I said at first, then chose not to include:

I spent many years as a case worker at a homeless shelter. We were a not-for-profit agency, meaning we didn't charge for our services. We housed over 100 people a day, 24/7, 365. We didn't get the money to pay shelter utilities or buy food for our clients by osmosis; the bulk of our financing came from donations. Private citizens donating money, local business donating goods, local contractors volunteering work and materials for repairs. That's thousands and thousands of dollars that these people gave away, and never got a penny of it back. Not that I'm trying to equate helping the homeless with trading scripts, but the principle is the same.

So again, it's not about being dumb, it's about being generous. And, apparently, if you consider other traders to be leeches or friends.

What I can say is that from the day I got into script collecting, sharing without asking for anything in return has been my entire modus operandi, and it's worked out pretty well so far. :)
Except for the fact that I have all but one of your want list titles and cannot give you any of them because of that reputation. How is that really working out for you? Or are you just oblivious to it because it is easier to take the high road and act above everyone else with this free-for-all decree. Even thought you know - all to well - we all do not have the luxury of just dropping whatever whenever to people we like or think are likely harmless. And no - this is not me with my foot up your ass. I am just saying ----- I think your a decent enough guy who helps a lot of people with random stuff. That is great. More power to you. It is your thing. It is also seriously limiting because it comes with a **** it attitude in regard to scripts in general people like me see as a big fat stop sign.

Lon has said he doesn’t share things people have asked him not to. Do you have evidence to the contrary? What *would* make you share a script with him? Because I don’t think there’s any evidence that it’s his “reputation” that forestalls you sharing a script, but rather because you see the value in keeping items to yourself (but advertising you have them).

Cap -- what glenn said. I've stated on this site many times that while I'm happy to share everything I get, the exception is when I'm asked not to by the person who hooked me up. I'll always honor that condition. I have a large number of scripts I would absolutely love to share, and make a lot of people's day, but the people who gave them to me asked me to keep them to myself and not divulge who I got them from. I've never violated that trust and never will. I would tell you to just ask anyone who's ever given me a script under that condition, but that would require breaking my word and telling you who they are. :D

As for my sharing attitude, it's not me taking the high road. I share because that's how I got started as a collector. I started with no scripts (at least, no scripts you couldn't find on every script site on the internet) and built a collection through people generous enough to hook me up with scripts I didn't have without asking for a trade. I'm just paying their generosity forward.

I was the one that put up the share request you *******. Had I not - it never would of been mentioned or considered. It got rejected. It had nothing to do with me at all as I was the one advocating on his behalf knowing he likely had little to no shot at them otherwise. I have also never once heard a peep about him breaking anyone's confidence. Which is the actual reason I tossed the share request up in the first place. It is not my trust that was in question here. The reason given for the rejection was the known fact that he openly shares everything he has. That is his reputation in the community. Which is neither my call or my doing. Yet ---- Without any evidence at all - you just assume one thing every single time. In this case - every one of his requested titles were industry drive titles. Your damn right we are not going to burn our sources and willy-nilly toss industry scripts out there. It has nothing to do with your ignorant "value" speech nonsense - which if you had any clue what we actually have would be laughable - and everything to do with respecting our sources. Which is a concept we all know by now is completely lost on you. The fact is ---- We are never going to be hurting for "value" based trade bait to the point that we cannot toss a few no profile scripts out there to people we respect or consider friends. Be careful with our collection and sitting on something are two completely different things. Quinn knows Lon from W2R and specifically asked me why I put the request up? My reply was that he would do it for me if the situation was reversed. I then stated that this is exactly the type of person we are supposed to be helping and that I trusted his word. Sadly - in this case - the Taint is a democracy and not a dictatorship. It is an all-together or not at all situation. Think of it in Musketeer rules and that is how the Taint operates. He lost the request vote 4/37 because news flash - all the other members have no clue who the hell he was and just knew his reputation secondhand from his near empty trader profile. If you can honestly sit there and make me the villain in this scenario --- man - I really feel so very sorry for you on a human level. Then again - we both know "intent" does not matter in the least with you does it? Because ultimately this has nothing to do with Lon at all and is just another opportunity you see to pouch the hierarchy your never going to be invited into? Whatever. Feel free to work on that impending troll status of yours if you honestly feel the need to do so. I for one am not going to further participate in whatever narcissistic narrative your attempting to force feed us this week.

Read the above and try not to make me feel like a dick for ever having made the effort in the first place. We have absolutely had our differences in the past. We are also on polar opposite sides of this community. I get it. I would still like to believe we have always had mutual respect between us for sticking to our respective guns and helping the community out in our own ways as we could. At the very least that respect exists on my end because we basically have the same mission. We just have to go about it very differently based on circumstances and our places in the community. It is still the same end goal only to very different crowds - I guess. I am the overpriced preppies bar and your like --- a biker bar and stuff. :) Awesome. Love the diversity.

No hate on my end either, Cap. I'm aware of your status in the trade community, and am also aware that I'm nowhere close to that status (I'm still not sure what the Taint is, other than that little flesh island between the you-know-what and the you-know-where, but from context I'm assuming they're like the Illuminati of script collectors). I'm also aware that my sharing tendencies will probably prevent me from ever reaching that upper echelon. But I'm cool with it. I'm grateful for everything I get, and honestly, if I were to quit collecting today, it would be having already acquired a large percentage of my all-time want list. So I have no complaints.

Yeah, we've had differences, but who doesn't? Hell, I slapped my mom twice today, doesn't mean I hate her. :D

I have to ask, though -- what effort are you referring to? Are you saying you mentioned my want list to the flesh island?

Wow man, you seem quite upset based on a short comment. Are you ok? If you were trying to communicate something to a particular person, rather than making an overall statement to indicate something to everyone, perhaps a PM is a better venue? I’m not sure what “trolling” you’re referring to, as the previous post to this conversation was sharing a link to the bloodlist? Of course there are multiple options on the site if you’re uninterested in people presenting opinions that contradict yours, which do seem to bother you a bit. Perhaps you’re just having an off day, in which case, feel better.

Let's face it, SD, WTR and every site like them are networking sites.
If this was a post or ban site, there would be five members left.
